Greenland is a misleading name for this vast and wild landscape. Drifting icebergs, striking rock formations, and colourful skies are plentiful here, making Greenland a photographer’s dream location. I had the chance to spend a short time there this September, scouting out locations for a photography workshop next year. Here are some of the best images to come out of this trip! And if you’re interested in knowing more about the Greenland Photography Workshop (or other international workshops), sign up for info here.
All of these images are available as limited edition prints. Visit our Prints page for more info!
“Last Glow” My first two hours of photography in Greenland were some of my most memorable and productive photo time ever. This is how the evening ended. Dreamy light and stranded ice.
“Walk on the Wild Side” A wild place indeed. The scale is beyond comprehension, and certainly beyond photography… The chunk of ice visible on the left of the photo is probably over 300 metres high and the size of a small town. And 7/8ths of its mass lies underwater… Self-portrait, Ilulissat Icefjord, Greenland
“The Green in Greenland” Our first night ever shooting in Greenland was one that will stay with us forever. This is what I imagined when I thought of Greenland. Aurora, wilderness camping, massive icebergs (that one behind the tent is about 350 metres high). Dream come true.
“Drifting Ice” “Iceland” was already taken… Perhaps the name would have been more fitting for this place. Ice is everywhere you look, in all forms and shapes. I captured this during a phenomenal sunset we experienced in Ilulissat.
“Arctic Sentinel” Every sunset so far in Greenland has been fiery. It’s been amazing just casually walking down to the shore with the telephoto lens and see what will cruise in front of the village. A lone bird was enjoying the sunset colours atop this impressive berg.
“Goodnight Ilulissat” The sun lights up the gneiss shores of Ilulissat in mesmerizing fashion before dropping into the Bay of Disko.
“Greenland Visions” A scene from last night here on Disko Island, Greenland. A place of magic.
“Arctic Reverie” The incredible columnar basalt of Kuannit, on Disko Island
“Aurora Gates” Self-portrait from the amazing Kuannit area, on Disko Island, which is the biggest island off the world’s biggest island…
I think quite a few of us would like to think we are pretty good photographers. However, your photos demonstrate that there is a giant gap between good photography and absolutely Amazing photography! I think travelling to the most stunning places on the earth helps, but in addition to that, it is obvious the time, care and effort you have put into each and every shot.
A huge admirer.
