This is the first post of what is meant to be a weekly series that will highlight some of the fellow photographers who inspire me. Each week my intention is to share the work of 3 photographers, including one in my area. I want to highlight the fact that a lot of great photographs are produced in and around the Bow Valley these days. Some of the folks that will end up in this series are already well-known to general public, while others might be flying “under the radar”. Although the fields of adventure and landscape photography are of particular interest to me, I will undoubtedly also mention photographers who explore other branches of our art. You can also expect to find people from a variety of demographics, backgrounds and eras on here. The bottom line is that each of those people gets me excited about photography in one way or another.
Here we go for this first selection:
Already a surprise as my first “local” pick is actually a pair of wedding photographers. I don’t generally spend much time looking at wedding images but with these guys it’s hard not to. I am regularly blown away by how consistently creative and impactful their work is. Check out Lanny and Erika’s work at www.twomann.com
This legendary Italian mountaineer and photographer carried an incredible amount of gear on his expeditions worldwide. His haunting photographs of early explorations in the Karakoram are particularly fascinating. Check out his inspiring images here and here.
Ever since I saw the film Salt I have been following the work of Murray Fredericks closely. Not only can I relate to his approach, I find his images are mesmerizing. Make sure you also check out his time-lapse work.
If anyone shares my enthusiasm for these photographers, I’d love to hear from you. I am also always looking for inspiration – feel free to send in your suggestions of “inspiring photographers”. Have a great week and thanks for reading.
